Jairus’ Daughter

Jarius’ Daughter life size replica artwork at the Holy Angels parish hall in Sandusky, Ohio.

Long story short. This artwork came to the Sandusky parishes after a parishioner family – the Wehner’s – experienced a very scary several months with their young daughter who was quite close to death before experiencing a miraculous recovery after a very sudden illness. The art depicts one of the many healing miracles of Jesus when he raised the daughter of Jarius from the dead.

On the particular day when I took this photo, I was walking through the darkened parish hall after coming back from lunch. I noticed only one small area of sunlight in the entire room perfectly framing the young girl and Jesus in the artwork, while keeping all of the other figures fully in the shadows. I took the opportunity to capture that moment. I then turned to see where the sunlight was specifically coming from. There are no windows in the hall itself, but a door with a large glass window in the kitchen and the serving counter between the kitchen and the hall allowed this beam of light to shine through from the very far end of the building to this artwork.

Sunlight shining through the back kitchen door window and the open serving counter into the Holy Angels parish hall.
